I love this holy place not because it is a real heritage church built 160 years ago, not because its sophisticated and aesthetic architectural detail, but its seemingly humble but really holy spirit I felt when I first entered into the hall..
I visited here in the late afternoon and came again later in the evening at the same day and I took a chance to have a mass.
All the details in the interior is not lousy at all though it is still grave and beautiful.
I've been visiting lots of magnificent churches and cathedrals in Europe, US and other countries but all the time I was overwhelmed by too great holiness and their magnitude scale. But this time in St. Michael Catholic Cathedral I felt like I was at home. I felt like God is my father and Maria is my mother.. quite different and lovely feeling.. Thanks God for letting me feel you much closer than before..
Living in Canada is kind of previliege as far as Mother Nature is concerned. I might need couple of more decades to scan all the beauties in nature in Canada. Toronto is my good base camp to start the journey. ©PETER's Photo Odyssey 2009 All Rights Reserved

聖展 Pilgrimage to St. Michael Catholic Cathedral, Church Street Toronto Feb 11 2009
St. Michael's Cathedral is the Roman Catholic cathedral of Toronto, one of the oldest churches in the city. Located on Church Street, St. Michael's was built by William Thomas from 1845–1848 and at the time was primarily financed by Irish immigrants.
On May 8, 1845, Bishop Power laid the cathedral's cornerstone, and dedicated his cathedral and city to St. Michael. In the cornerstone, some fragments of a stone pillar of the old Norman York Minster Cathedral in England and some small pieces of the oak roof of that same cathedral were sealed. St. Michael's is a 19th century interpretation of the Minster's 14th century English Gothic style. The connection with York Minster is appropriate, since Toronto's English name had been York.
The cathedral is home to Canada's largest English Catholic diocese. The current archbishop is Thomas Christopher Collins, appointed by Pope Benedict XVI on 16 December 2006, replacing Aloysius Matthew Cardinal Ambrozic. Cardinal Ambrozic retired after 16 years as Archbishop of Toronto.
